HSE’s statistics on fatal injuries in Great Britain have been published indicating that 144 people died at work last year (2015/16). The fatality rate was 0.46 deaths per 100,000 workers and though over the latest 20-year time period there has been a downward trend in the rate of fatal injury, in recent years this shows signs of levelling off. Breaking down fatalities by industry, the report shows that construction had the highest number of deaths, recording 43 fatalities, the same as the sector’s five-year average. Services suffered 37 fatalities and agriculture and manufacturing were both 27.
